A oliveira (Olea europaea L.) é uma planta característica da região Mediterrânea que teve seu cultivo disseminado para diversos países do mundo, devido ao grande interesse na produção de olivas e de seu azeite, ricos em ácidos graxos essenciais. As folhas da oliveira podem ser um importante subproduto gerado pela poda das árvores, pois apresentam quantidade significativa de compostos fenólicos e ácidos graxos benéficos à saúde. ABSTRACT: The high intensity ultrasound-assisted extraction (HIU) is one of the most simple, quick and efficient techniques for the extraction of phenolic and other antioxidant compounds from plants. This is the first application of HIU for the extraction of these compounds from goldenberry fruit. The HIU and conventional extraction techniques showed similar results regarding to phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity. A determinação de umidade em grãos é um parâmetro de qualidade importante, uma vez que o teor de água presente no alimento tem influência tanto no armazenamento quanto na comercialização do produto. Os métodos usados como referência na determinação de umidade em grãos empregam a perda por dessecação em estufa (LOD). Apesar de ser de fácil execução, esse método dispende cerca de 24h de aquecimento, normalmente, em 105°C, para obtenção do resultado. Development, characterization and viability study of probiotic microcapsules produced by complex coacervation followed by freeze-drying Ciência Rural

ABSTRACT: Technique of complex coacervation was used to produce microcapsules of Lactobacillus acidophilus La-5 encapsulated in gelatin and gum arabic which were then freeze-drying. Microcapsules were characterized using scanning electron and optical microscopy, and resistance of probiotics was evaluated during release into a simulated gastrointestinal tract and storage at different temperatures. The complex coacervation process produced microcapsules with a high encapsulation efficiency (77.60% and 87.53%), ranging from 127.14-227.05 μm with uniform distribution. This paper describes the studies performed with the candidate Certified Reference Material (CRM) of captopril, the first CRM of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in Brazil, including determination of impurities (organic, inorganic and volatiles), homogeneity testing, short- and long-term stability studies, calculation of captopril content using the mass balance approach, and estimation of the associated measurement uncertainty.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the addition of prebiotics rice bran, inulin and hi-maize, on the survival of Lactobacillus acidophilus in alginate microparticles obtained by external ionic gelation followed by freeze-drying. The microparticles size ranged from 127.5μm to 234.6μm. Microparticles added from the different prebiotics demonstrated an increase in the protection of the microorganism, which presented greater viability against the gastrointestinal simulation. ABSTRACT: This study aimed to extract isoflavones from soybean molasses with different solvents, furthermore, the selected extract, which showed overall desirable characteristics was selected to evaluate the potentials of different encapsulating agents. The encapsulating agents employed for the study included 18% Maltodextrin DE20 (T1), 18% Hi-maize (T2), and a mixture of equal proportions of 9% Maltodextrin DE20 and 9% of Hi-maize (T3). ABSTRACT: This study produced pectin microcapsules containing Lactobacillus acidophilus by external ionic gelation, followed by the adsorption of whey protein and pectin to form multilayers. The viability of free and microencapsulated lactobacilli was evaluated after in vitro exposure to gastrointestinal conditions. O ultrassom é uma das novas tecnologias limpas aplicadas a alimentos. Na ciência e tecnologia de carnes, é estudado principalmente quanto à sua capacidade de melhorar a maciez da carne, por mecanismos de cavitação. Alguns parâmetros acústicos como frequência, intensidade e tempo de exposição ao tratamento influenciam na tenderização da carne. Os primeiros estudos determinaram que o uso de altas frequências não apresentaram efeitos na textura, em função de não provocarem cavitação. Microalgal heterotrophic bioreactors are a potential technological development that can convert organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus of wastewaters into a biomass suitable for energy production. The aim of this work was to evaluate the performance of microalgal heterotrophic bioreactors in the secondary treatment of cattle-slaughterhouse wastewater and the reuse of microalgal sludge for biodiesel production. The experiments were performed in a bubble column bioreactor using the microalgae Phormidium sp. ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of extraction conditions on bioactive compounds, as well as on antioxidant activity, and the antimicrobial activity of the extracts with the highest antioxidant characteristics. The extracts were obtained by conventional method and ultrasound-assisted extraction at various temperatures (20°C, 40°C and 60°C). Total phenolics, total flavonoids, antimicrobial activity and antioxidant activity were quantified by the methods of DPPH, FRAP, and ORAC, respectively.
